5th Grade Teacher
Jason Smith has been an educator in the Clark County District for 22 years. Fifteen of those years have been spent teaching 5th grade, where he specializes in science education, social studies, and technology integration. During that time, Jason utilized STEM instruction, The JASON Expedition, and created a partnership with the Nevada Department of Wildlife with Trout in the Classroom. Jason also served as a Technology Specialist where he became highly skilled in integrating technology into the curriculum. Some of his job responsibilities as a Technology Specialist were to integrate technology into K-5 classrooms, create and facilitate professional development training, and encourage students to amplify their voices. Jason facilitated the implementation and training of G Suite apps to his entire school community. With his background in broadcast journalism, Jason developed an after-school video production program to help students develop skills such as: video editing, reporting, public speaking, camera operation, and directing. In 2019, he was selected to attend the Our Voice Academy. In 2023, Jason was acknowledged as Technology Innovator of the Year by the Nevada Society of Innovators and Digital Educators (NVSIDE) and Teacher of the Month (February 2023) by KSNV (News 3 Las Vegas). In February 2024, Jason was featured on Good Morning America, where he was named their "Ray of Sunshine” and presented with tickets to Super Bowl LVIII.
